It was many years ago that I was introduced to this very important book and it changed my life forever. In fact, it gave my life meaning and direction outside any of the typical institutions or philosophies one usually associates with such things. Remaining independent is very important to me, essential in fact, and Ronald Gross' book has helped me to do that by design and with purpose. I recently discovered that the 1993 edition of the book is available online through Simon Fraser University in Canada. Being acquainted with the incredibly diverse and insightful membership of Gaia.com, I imagine there are many among us who qualify as independent scholars of one sort or another. For those who consider themselves such formally, my greetings. As Ronald Gross points out in his book, you are in amazing company. To those who would like to know more about what independent scholarship is, what rewards the lifestyle offers and how to get started, I highly recommend downloading a copy of this book and reading through it. The prologue and chapter one are especially uplifting and encouraging to all who simply consider themselves lifelong learners and to those who'd like to be.
I offer you my encouragement to become a scholar in whatever capacity that best suits you and offer my sincerest hopes this book will in some way change your life positively and fruitfully forever. I also welcome connections to those who have read it, used it, and have thoughts to share.
