Would you prefer to go to heaven, or be reincarnated?

This is in Response to the Questions and Reflections for September 26, 2007:

The traditional definition of "heaven" holds no appeal for me. As I'm certain I'm a product of this Earth, if there were a place most ideal for my specific individuality or "spirit", it would have to also be of the Earth. If there is a "heaven" for me, it is here and ONLY here to be found. As for reincarnation, I see no sense in wishing for multiple successive lives if I'm unwilling to make the most of the life I currently have. If I'm successful in finding the bliss unique to this life, i.e., in finding my own private heaven, here, now, of what use is another life to this one? Doesn't that life belong to itself and itself alone? Of what business is it of this life to waste thought on a previous one - IF there was one? Isn't the job of THIS life - this life?

At any rate, I seldom entertain thoughts of "what comes next?" - such thoughts savagely cheapen the here and the now. The task at hand is to make all that is possible with life now. If there is a "next", it is not the business of this life to spend time contemplating it. There are many who will disagree but, I believe those many are wasting precious time or, as I see it, precious life.
